Bom Group, a leader in the greenhouse construction sector, announces the appointment of Johan van Geest as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective March 1. Johan will take over from Mike Vermeij, who will focus on Bom Group's continued expansion in Asia and the Middle East, among others.

The companies behind Dutch horticulture are leaders in the sector. The sector is growing, driven by an increasing demand for controlled environment, both in the Netherlands and internationally, in response to climate change and the need for food security. Bom Group also plays a major role in this important sector in the Netherlands and abroad. With an impressive track record in the horticultural sector and a background in marketing, sales and strategy, Johan van Geest is extremely qualified to take Bom Group to the next phase of growth.

Van Geest mentions the importance of innovation and collaboration within the sector. ‘Bom Group has a rich history of innovation and is a top global player,’ Van Geest explains. He is determined to focus on what Bom does best: being reliable and innovative. ‘We will continue to bring innovations to market quickly, with the foundation in the Netherlands, lead by a strong team that is experienced and technically educated.’ As the first steps in his new role, Johan wants to get to know the company and its people thoroughly in order to best respond to the needs within the industry. He is also looking forward to directly applying his experience in horticulture. ‘As the son of a grower and with a career in the agricultural sector, especially horticulture, I am excited to expand and apply my knowledge of greenhouse construction technology,’ he adds.

Partnership ensures complementary expertise
Bom Group is part of market leader Atrium Agri. Atrium Agri, with also CambridgeHOK, Havecon, JB Hydroponics, Kascoplex, PB tec, SCRE3NS, VB, PowerPlants, VH Systems and VEK Adviesgroep, has a complete and leading portfolio in the greenhouse sector. The companies work together, making complementary expertise and extra capacity available for complex and extensive projects. This also provides a solid basis to further develop and implement innovative and sustainable solutions.Van Geest explains, ‘The strength of Bom Group lies in turnkey projects. We do this as an independent company, but partnerships are important. We can take care of everything, from strategic advice and design, to feasibility studies and maintenance of Controlled-Environment Agriculture (CEA) systems. Moreover, we coordinate operational matters.’

Growth in the east
Mike Vermeij, former CEO of Bom Group (2016-2025), has led the organisation with determination and expertise. Under his leadership, the company has achieved international growth and strengthened innovation within the sector. Mike continues his career within the organisation and will particularly focus on growth in Asia and the Middle East. ‘I look forward to strengthening our presence in these promising regions and creating new opportunities for Bom Group,’ Vermeij said.
